What do you need to own your own business in Interior Design?
damaris_troop9863 asked:
I am recenlty deciding to ditch Education as my major becuase I don’t like the politics of dealing with students parents. I am very interested in Interior design. I would like to know what kind of college degree would help me persue this career and how I should get started. I would like to open my own company eventually. And want to know what would be useful for myself to achieve this goal. I am not afraid of hard work and putting in the “hours”. Thanks

A degree in interior design will help you. Check the design schools in your state, and look into the programs that they offer. You can get financial aid for your courses. In terms of first jobs, get one at a home decorating store, like a fabric store. Some fabric stores hire persons just for that purpose interior decorating. I know one interior designer from back east and she operated primarily through contracts. Plus, you can offer your services to family and friends while you study for your degree. That way you can build up references and build a nice portfolio for when you open your business. Good luck!
