Dan (Michael Douglas) tries to drown Alex (Glenn Close) insane and with the knife in the bathtub, but Beth (Anne Archer) saves the day at the end.
"Fatal attraction" has become a familiar term for love turned into murderous obsession, thanks to the success of the 1987 film by Adrian Lyne. Dan (Michael Douglas) is a family man whose one-night adventure with Alex (Glenn Close) becomes a nightmare when she insists on continuing the relationship, claiming she is carrying her baby. Alex systematically terrorizes Dan, even kidnapping his daughter temporarily, in his attempts to regain his affection. Douglas's beleaguered family man tries guilty of preserving his marriage and his family from the consequences of his own indiscretion. Close's performance as the psycho-siren impacted by love remains his main role: he conveys the buried feminist message of the film in his challenge to Dan to take responsibility for his sexual behavior. Although many critics recognized the film's striking similarities with the 1971 Clint Eastwood Play Misty for Me movie, Fatal Attraction generated many other films about middle-class families beset by a solitary psychotic attempt to infiltrate and destroy the structure of the family unit , including The Stepfather (1987), Pacific Heights (1990), The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) and Fear (1996).
